Ball Mill Liner Material Specifications
Metal Liners for Hard Material Processing
Metal linings provide exceptional strength and superior wear resistance, making them ideal for ball mills processing hard materials such as ore and metal slag. These represent the most widely used liner type in industrial applications today.
1. High Manganese Steel Lining
  • Composition: 10%-14% manganese, 1.0%-1.4% carbon content (austenitic steel)
  • Features: Excellent toughness with work hardening capability under impact, surface hardness increases from HB200 to HB500+ while maintaining core toughness
  • Applications: Coarse and medium grinding stages, ball mills processing hard rocks like granite and iron ore
  • Limitations: Reduced effectiveness in low-impact environments, higher cost, challenging welding characteristics
2. High Chromium Cast Iron Lining
  • Composition: 15%-30% chromium, 2.0%-3.5% carbon with Cr7C3 hard phase structure
  • Features: Extreme hardness (HRC55-65), 3-5 times the wear resistance of high manganese steel, excellent corrosion resistance
  • Applications: Fine grinding stages, overflow ball mills, processing medium-hard materials like cement clinker and limestone
  • Limitations: High brittleness, poor impact resistance under high-stress conditions
3. Low Alloy Steel Lining
  • Composition: Alloy elements including Cr, Mo, Ni, V (total content <5%) with heat treatment optimization
  • Features: Balanced hardness (HRC35-50) and toughness, customizable composition, better welding performance than high chromium alternatives
  • Common Types: Chromium-molybdenum steel for large linings, nickel-hard cast iron with enhanced toughness
  • Applications: Medium impact and wear conditions in mineral processing and building materials industries
